Big Band jazz in itself is infectious. But when you add the gospel of Christ to it and you have a combination that's guaranteed to leave a lasting impression.
ONFIRE BIG BAND play all styles of big band jazz, ranging from Swing to Latin, Funk to Blues, soul-searching Ballads to Gospel.
The 17 piece jazz ensemble all hail from the same church - the Salvation Army Sydney Congress Hall - the church in the heart of the city.
OnFire's mission is two-fold: First, to attract the jazz listening public of Australia to the message of Christ. Second, to enhance the worship experience within their own church (and the Australasian church at large).
ONFIRE BIG BAND's gig list includes such prestigious events as the Manly Jazz Festival, the Youth in Swing concert series, and concerts with James Morrison, The Idea of North, and Ralph Carmichael. The Band has also played at many of the larger Salvation Army celebration events throughout Australia. During 2001, the Band toured the South Island of New Zealand.
In 2000, the band released their self-titled debut CD (OnFire Big Band).
In March 2002 they released a 2nd CD - Jazz with Heat and Direction. This is LIVE recording of concerts performed with jazz genius James Morrison and a cappela jazz quartet The Idea of North.
OnFire Big Band have just released their 3rd CD - 'Unfinished Business'.
