Blenheim Flourishes
Band: The Greater New York Youth Band
For sheer magnitude and grandeur, Blenheim Palace stands atop Britain's architectural wonders. Given to John Churchill, Duke of Marlborough, for his brilliant military victory at Blenheim during the War of Spanish Succession in 1704, the palace represented Britain's dominance on the world stage and a tribute to the empire's greatest military strategist. Alas, the Duke never got to enjoy it, dying before the palace was completed in 1722. The listener, however, will have no problem enjoying this piece, which is not descriptive of Blenheim but is meant to capture the spirit of British band enthusiasts.
