I've been listening to a lot of Kraftwerk recently, so this track started out as an instrumental, heavily influenced by their style. However, I felt it needed some lyrics: something retro-modern, something 'Kraftwerkian' - something about loving your pocket calculator, or being a fan, fan, fan of the autobahn. But with spiritual values. Then I remembered that song in the Salvation Army songbook that I have never, ever heard sung. Ever. "God Of Concrete". The only 'punk' song in the songbook (first appeared in the 70's, annoys old people and is a bit confrontational)! The lyrics were perfect, and beautiful in that Kraftwerk way, so Mike O'Brien came over and recorded the vocals and I added a bunch of over the top retro-futuristic vocal FX. Hope you like it...
God of concrete, God of steel,
God of piston and of wheel,
God of pylon, God of steam,
God of girder and of beam,
God of atom, God of mine:
all the world of power is thine.
Lord of cable, Lord of rail,
Lord of freeway and of mail,
Lord of rocket and of flight,
Lord of soaring satellite,
Lord of lightning's flashing line:
all the world of speed is thine.
Lord of science, Lord of art,
Lord of map and graph and chart,
Lord of physics and research,
Word of Bible, Faith of church,
Lord of sequence and design:
all the world of truth is thine.
