A Salvation Army friend in Port Elizabeth, South Africa asked on Facebook if anyone knew of a setting of the Army's Junior Soldier's Promise. This is a pledge made by all young people when they make the decision to 'join' the SA. It is a lovely prayer, known by all Salvationists and remembered verbatim all our lives. I have many friends who have not attended the SA for decades but still remember these lovely words - a fine 'design for a life' whether a church-goer or not!
I recalled a setting written for SA Junior Choir (singing company) by Diane Berry but I was unable to locate a good recording - so I recorded it myself! My friend used it last week in a lovely ceremony where she enrolled 9 new Junior Soldiers in PE. I was worshipping at the same time, some 6025 miles away - the amazing advance of technology is so wonderful.
For this recording I sing the vocal parts, play the piano and added my euphonium as well.
I hope you enjoy it both as a piece of music and also for its use of the words I have explained above. marc
