A Christmas song about selfishness, sacrifice and gratitude.
My day of thanks is over; now it's time to make my list,
Of trinkets, toys and shiny things and tastes I can't resist,
But nothing friends and family buy to show me that I'm loved,
Will shine with heaven's presence like your blessings from above.
You gave me breath; you gave me healing,
You gave me love I don't deserve, and joy I can't contain,
Forgiveness for my wrong, a family and an everlasting home.
Before I even asked, you gave me life.
It's you I owe the honor of my gifts on Christmas morn,
For leaving heaven's throne to be a humble human born,
But all I had to offer as a son of Adam's race,
Was a lesson in mortality the day you took my place.
I gave you blows; I gave you beatings,
I gave you hate you didn't earn, and pain to great to bear,
A cross for innocence, a bloody hill, a grave to face alone.
Before I knew your name, I gave you death.
Please forgive me, Lord, for thinking only of myself,
I murdered heaven's joy to buy my own,
Still bathed in love and raised to life, with heaven's hosts I'll sing,
And when my tongue is stilled my grateful heart will bring my offering.
Glory to God in the highest,
Peace on the earth and her people today,
Born to us is the child who will save every nation,
God's gift to the world; the Light of Love.
I'll give my breath; I'll give my story,
I'll give you thanks for giving everything and raising me,
Oh, little Lamb of God; the ancient, Holy King of all the worlds.
For every gift you give, I'll give you praise.
